Help in Times or Need

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

Most of us have experienced betrayal at some time. Maybe it was from a relative, a family member or friend who betrayed our trust. The trouble is that we cannot see through people and we do not know what is in their hearts.

Betrayal can leave us feeling wounded and in a place of mistrust and general suspicion of others. David experienced betrayal from King Saul and the King who once took pleasure in him, now wanted him dead. This is what made David suspicious when some men from Benjamin and Judah came out to meet him. David said to them, “If you have come to me in friendship to help me, my heart will be joined to you; but if to betray me to my adversaries, although there is no wrong in my hands, then may the God of our fathers see and rebuke you.” 1 Chronicles 12:16

These men had not come to betray David but to help and strengthen him. David received them and and they became officers of his troops. Just because we have experienced betrayal does not mean that everyone will betray us. Some people are sent by God to help strengthen us and our fear of the past can cause us to push people away. How can we know whether or not someone is sent by God to help us. We pray and trust God for help and we inquire of God about the people that enter our lives. We also test the spirits to see whether they are from God. 1 John 4:1

After David received those men, from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great army, like an army of God. 1 Chronicles 12:22

David had to remain open to receiving help and not make the mistake of closing himself off from others. God continued to send David support and of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, 200 chiefs, and all their kinsmen under their command. 1 Chronicles 12:32

The visions and dreams that we have will often not be accomplished single handedly and we need the experience and expertise of others to help us establish our vision. Trust God to heal you from the hurt of betrayal and be open to help from others. Ask and God will show you who to trust.
